The National Gambling Board confirmed last week that a public consultation on a new online casino framework will open in Q3 2026, with provincial input due by November and a draft regulation expected in early 2027. The notice followed the October 2025 Supreme Court of Appeal decision in Portapa / Supabets v CASA, which clarified that slot-style games offered by SA-licensed bookmakers as fixed-odds contingencies do not breach the National Gambling Act.

The 30 June 2026 NGB deadline for operators to scrub any casino-style content that crosses the line still stands. Every operator on this site has either confirmed compliance or is in active discussion with their provincial regulator. The Spina Zonke lobby itself is unaffected because it has always been structured as a fixed-odds contingency at provincial bookmaker level.

What it means

For the next year, nothing changes on the consumer side. The lobby you play in today will be the same lobby in June 2027. Once the new framework lands, expect a new national online casino licence category, almost certainly with higher capital requirements than the current provincial bookmaker route, and a slightly clearer line between sports betting, fixed-odds contingencies, and pure casino.
